Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han // Thoughts & Review *No Spoilers*

Sypnosis from Goodreads: Lara Jean is having the best senior year a girl could ever hope for. She is head over heels in love with her boyfriend, Peter; her dad’s finally getting remarried to their next door neighbor, Ms. Rothschild; and Margot’s coming home for the summer just in time for the wedding.

But change is looming on the horizon. And while Lara Jean is having fun and keeping busy helping plan her father’s wedding, she can’t ignore the big life decisions she has to make. Most pressingly, where she wants to go to college and what that means for her relationship with Peter. She watched her sister Margot go through these growing pains. Now Lara Jean’s the one who’ll be graduating high school and leaving for college and leaving her family—and possibly the boy she loves—behind.

When your heart and your head are saying two different things, which one should you listen to?

rating: 5/5 stars.

Whether you’re one of my readers, or you follow my Instagram, you know that I’m absolutely smitten with this series. Once I found out Jenny Han was releasing Always and Forever, Lara Jean, I was over the moon with excitement. This was my most anticipated read of the year, by far.

First thing’s first, I have to say: I’m so sad its over. This series has been a favorite of mine since the night I binge-read To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before in one sitting. I fell in love with the characters, the writing, and the story so quickly. Lara Jean holds such a special place in my heart, because in certain ways, she reminds me of myself.

Now, let’s get into what I thought of this book! Spoiler free, of course. Not as fun for those who’ve read it, I know. There’s so much to talk about!

Always and Forever, Lara Jean revolves around a lot of change. The main character, Lara Jean, is in her senior year of high school. She’s head over heels in love with her boyfriend, Peter. She has all of her future plans figured out, until she receives news that changes everything. It’s her final year at home, and there’s a lot happening.

Quite a bit of time has passed since P.S, I Still Love You, and we get to see how Lara Jean and Peter are like in a serious relationship. There were plenty of cute little moments shared between them. Personally, I’m a huge Peter fan, so I was all about it!

As always, Han kept the amazing bond between the Song sisters in this story. As far as siblings go, their relationship is my favorite. It’s realistic, yet adorable and hilarious to read. Kitty, the youngest Song sister, always makes me laugh. I’m going to miss her sassy remarks. You can’t help but love her.

A lot happens in this book. We get to see how Lara Jean handles all of the struggles that come her way, and the huge decisions she has to make for her future. We watch her grow up, and mature throughout her final year at home, and some major high school events, such as prom. Margot comes home to visit, and we find out what she’s been up to. Along with the exciting news that her dad is getting married!

And of course, we find out what happens between Lara Jean and Peter…

Overall, I’m happy with how this series ended. Were there a couple of moments I thought were unnecessary? Yes. Are there any things I would add to this book, and characters I wish we saw more of? Yes. That being said, I still loved every page.

I’m going to miss Lara Jean, Peter, and the rest of the Song family. This story will forever be one of my favorites, and it’s the perfect YA contemporary read that never fails to put a smile on my face. Thank you, Jenny Han, for writing an amazing series that so many of us fell in love with.

And with that, I’ll leave you with a quote from this book that I love:

“Never say no when you really want to say yes.”

  1. Wonderfully written review! I’m OBSESSED with this series. The first was my personal favorite just because I think it’s hilarious how Lara Jean and Peter end up together. The third was really the most heartwarming though with the couple’s relationship taking a more serious turn as they get ready for college. All in all, I totally agree with you, this was a really fun end to the series.
Anyways, I look forward to more of your posts in the future… Happy Reading! 😀
